Kappa Kappa Gamma Baltimore Alumnae AssociationPhilanthropy 1-2-3
As individuals with time, talent and money, we first support our family – the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation. Second we participate in local projects in the Baltimore community. Third we look to the greater good, projects with far-reaching results, by joining with all Kappas everywhere to support Reading is Fundamental (RIF), our national philanthropy.
Did you know?
- A child from a low-income family enters kindergarten with a listening vocabulary of 3,000 words while a child from a high-income family enters with a listening vocabulary of 20,000 words.
- 88% of children who have difficulty reading at the end of first grade display similar difficulties at the end of fourth grade.
- 75% of students who are poor readers in third grade will remain poor readers in high school.
- The Baltimore KKG Alumnae Association and the Eta Epsilon chapter at Johns Hopkins University partner to support RIF. Each year, we gather at the downtown Barnes & Noble to provide free activities, crafts and book readings to children and families in the store.
- Additionally, Barnes & Noble donates 10% of select purchases to our cause on the day of our fundraiser. Specifically, visitors who mention our fundraiser when making their purchase at the downtown store and anyone who uses our special coupon at any Barnes & Noble can support our fundraising efforts.
- In 2008, we raised over $500 for RIF and we doubled that amount to over $1000 in 2009! We hope to raise $2000 at our next event on Saturday, November 14th at the Barnes & Noble on 601 East Pratt Street in Baltimore (21202).
Here’s to another successful event!
As Kappas all over the world continue to support and partner with RIF, we are encouraging and motivating children to be lifelong learners, as well as training caring adults to transform children into readers and book lovers. Thank you all for your continued dedication to our Baltimore sisterhood and the cause of literacy.
