Happy Wheels is a non-profit outreach at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Children's Hospital. Its goal is to “wheel” happiness and joy to each child at the hospital weekly. The staff is comprised exclusively of volunteers.
Each Thursday, volunteers offer a free toy or book from the Happy Wheels cart to each child in the hospital. The cart has a minimum of 100 gifts for the children to select from. The value of each gift ranges from $8.00 - $16.00. To keep the cart stocked, it takes an average of $1,000.00 per week. Funds are provided by individuals, churches, and civic organizations in South Carolina’s Low Country and Grand Strand areas. There is no government funding.
Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), our official philanthropic partner, has been supported through the donation of thousands of books and volunteer hours to Boys and Girls Clubs, elementary schools and hospitals.
Our chapter also supports the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation with financial gifts and Rose McGill magazine subscription sales to help fund scholarships, confidential aid, education and training, and support of our two museums.
