PHOCUS ON PHILANTHROPY
If you are interested in helping to plan an event, have volunteer hours that you would like to count towards our goal, or have any questions relating to our philanthropic endeavors, please contact our Philanthropy Chair.
Our Philanthropies
In 2004, the Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity selected Reading is Fundamental (RIF) as its national philanthropy. RIF is the oldest and largest children's and family nonprofit literacy organization in the U.S. The organization provides 4.5 million under served children with 16 million new, free books and literacy resources each year. Since 2004, Kappa's collegiate chapters and alumnae associations have contributed funds, volunteer time, and materials to support RIF. In July 2008, RIF recognized Kappa as its Donor of the Month.
Although RIF is headquartered in Washington D.C. and is practically a local charity, Northern Virginia Alumnae Association has expanded its efforts to support literacy on a local scale. The NoVA Alumnae Association sponsors an annual "Reading is Key" event with the Child and Family Network Center (CFNC) in Alexandria. This local organization provides free preschool education for children living in poverty in Northern Virginia. CFNC also provides free family support, literacy, job training, and health programs to the parents of the students, giving children what they need most: strong, capable families.
Our 2010-2011 Goals
Philanthropy is an important part of the goals the Northern Virginia Alumnae Association sets at the beginning of each year. By August 2011, we aim to raise $1,500 for our charities. In addition, we encourage each member to contribute 10 hours of her time to community service activities. There are so many ways you can help support our goals. You can help plan an Alumnae Association event, donate funds, simply attend one of our events, or volunteer in your community. Any help you can give will make our communities better!
