President's Letter

Dear Sisters,

Welcome to another Kappa year. Our association, branches and interest groups have planned varied and exciting programs. I am sure that you will find at least one event "right up your alley."

"It all started with fifty dollars" (Foundation Focus, July 2009). I was excited to read that the Philadelphia Alumnae Association and Beta Alpha Chapter, Pennsylvania, were instrumental in beginning the scholarship program. The two groups, during the 1890s, raised fifty dollars annually for a summer scientific scholarship. In 1902, the Fraternity took this on and in 1910; the first collegiate scholarship was awarded. Today, the PAA Foundation continues the tradition. Through toffee sales, philanthropic dues and the phantom fundraiser, we will raise money to support the KKG Foundation and local philanthropies. We also offer service opportunities in support of Reading Is Fundamental, Kappa's national philanthropy. Continue the tradition - give what you can and volunteer at a service event.

The highlight of our fall season is the celebration of Founders Day with the West Chester Alumnae Association and Zeta Iota Chapter, Villanova. Again, we will honor our Founders; the special sisters who are celebrating fifty-, sixty-five and, yes, seventy-five years as Kappas and two outstanding Zeta Iota actives: for scholarship and for Kappa loyalty.

What a wonderful opportunity to showcase the different phases of our Fraternity: honoring the women whose vision we have pledged to uphold for 139 years; recognizing those members who have reached a special Kappa milestone, reminding us that Kappa is for a life time; and celebrating with the Zeta Iota actives, in whom we entrust our traditions in the future. Plan to be there with us on October 26 for this special evening.

A Tradition of Leadership - Let's celebrate both words this year!

Loyally,
President of the Philadelphia Alumni Association
