The Piedmont Carolina Alumnae Association
Philanthropy
Our association is proud to support the Fraternity's vision of "Philanthropy 1-2-3." As individuals with time, talents and treasures, Kappas first support our sisters; second, we participate in local service projects; and third, we serve the greater good.
Reading Is Fundamental – Our association is pleased to continue our tradition of collecting books for local Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) programs. We ask members to donate one children's book at each of the association events that they attend throughout the year. In May 2011, we donated 156 books to two elementary schools, one in Chapel Hill and one in Durham.
Rose McGill – Our association is pleased to participate in the Rose McGill Holiday Sharing Program to support one of our Kappa sisters in need. We collect monetary donations to purchase gifts from our adopted Kappa's wish list, and these gifts are sent to her in time to brighten her holidays. Association members gather for brunch in early December to celebrate the season and share in preparing our holiday care package.
Sisterhood – Individual members of our association also support the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation with financial gifts and through Rose McGill magazine subscription sales to help fund scholarships, confidential aid, education and training, and support of our two museums.
Undergraduate Events – Our association is pleased to support the philanthropic endeavors of our local chapters. The Duke undergraduates host the Kappa 5K for Camp K at the Washington Duke Inn/Al Buehler Trail in Durham each fall. This chapter fundraiser benefits the Duke Children’s Hospital Camp Kaleidoscope, a weeklong summer camp in the mountains of North Carolina for children with chronic or terminal illnesses.
