The Piedmont Carolina Alumnae Association
"Regardless of what success means to you, you can't achieve it without the help of others." Vivian Buchen, Author, Poet, Educator
I believe this quote perfectly describes the success we are having as members of the Piedmont Carolina Alumnae Association. Who are we? We are a group of sisters who are also daughters, mothers, grandmothers, great-grandmothers, professionals, students, volunteers, and community leaders. As women, we are natural collaborators, cheerleaders and supporters. It is not surprising that a group of Kappa alumnae, some of whom have been friends for 50 years and others who have just met, have chosen to band together in the spirit of sisterhood. In less than one month together we have already made great strides. Some of our newest accomplishments include:
- Implementing a new alumnae Philanthropy project – sponsoring a sister in need through the Rose McGill Holiday Sharing Program.
- Expanding our RIF book collection program – identification of two new elementary schools to receive our donations.
- Creating a new way to celebrate Founders Day – joining alumnae with actives of both the Duke and North Carolina chapters.
- Initiating a new "Night Owls" special interest group for young alumnae.
- Increasing attendance and shared leadership for our "Lunch Bunch" events.
- Developing and implementing a new, targeted communication program including a new Web site and monthly e-mail bulletins.
With such a spirited beginning, I am excited to see what this group of women will accomplish together in the coming year. Please continue to share your ideas, talents and strengths with your Kappa sisters. I look forward to being a part of our joint successes as we grow and enrich our lives and our community.
