While we are one large association, we have created lots of different ways for our sisters to get involved. In addition to philanthropy, panhellenic, and the administrative board, we like to have fun! All dues paying members are invited to participate in any of the following groups:

Night Owls, led by Melissa Catto and Michele Becker

Night Owls is a social group for Kappa alumnae of all ages. Outings are typically in the early evening and provide time for mingling, sharing food and drinks, and enjoying an evening out on the town with your local Kappa sisters. Recent events have included at trip to Steve's Cheese Bar in SE Portland for cheese boards with suggested wine pairings - was quite an tasty treat! Joining the Night Owls is a great way to get involved and meet new Kappa friends! We have several events planned for 2012 including:

  • June 9, 2012: Night Owls: 7pm: Roller Skating at Oaks Park – wear your letters!
  • August 14, 2012: Night Owls Movie Night: 5pm: Living Room Theaters - happy hour and a movie

Come every month or pick a few to attend—you are always welcome at the table! Just be sure to RSVP so we can save you a seat. Lunch locations change monthly and rotate to different corners of the Portland Metro area. Attendance ranges from 5-25 women; it just depends on the day and time of year. We can't wait to see you soon! Upcoming dates include:

  • Friday June 8, 2012: : Lunch Bunch: Noon – Clark Lewis: 1001 SW Water Avenue @ Taylor
  • Wednesday July 11, 2012: Lunch Bunch: Noon - Location TBA

Kappa Kulinary

Created in 2009, this group was an instant hit with members. Each event is a potluck designed around a particular theme (chocolate, summer salads) and we not only get to sample each other’s favorite dishes, and trade recipes!

Our most recent Kappa Kulinary, Spring Salads in April 2012, was hosted at the home of Kirsty Dickinson in NW Portland.

At lot of fun was has by all! Dishes sampled included several different types of salad - pasta, fruit, and traditional greens. We are always looking for new Kappas to host so let us know if you are interested!

Next Kappa Kulinary: Fall Favorites: November 08, 2012

Moms & Tots, led by Elisabeth Rice

Kappas are moms too! If you have a child under five years old, and would like to get more involved with the Kappa Alumnae, this is your group! We vary the days of the week for our events to accommodate both working and stay-at-home moms. We try to meet once every two months in the Fall, Winter and Spring and once a month in the Summer. Our goals are cost-effective play dates, great friendships and meeting other Kappa moms! We often spend time at the library for story time and in parks when the weather is nice for outdoor fun. If you haven't joined us before, please come and meet us—we want to meet you and your tot! If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact Elisabeth at rice.elisabeth@gmail.com.

Have a good idea? Don't see an interest group for you yet?

We are always interested in adding new groups. If you would like to chair an interest group related to your favorite hobby or know some neat things to do in Portland that you want to share with your sisters, make a note on your dues form or email portlandkappas@gmail.com. We welcome your ideas and involvement!
