Tuscaloosa Alumnae Association
Philanthropy 1-2-3
As individuals with time, talents and treasures, Kappas first support our sisters; second, we participate in local service projects; and third, we serve the greater good.
Our chapter women support elementary schools, Relay for Life, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Habitat for Humanity to name a few. Chapter fundraising events support causes such as the American Cancer Society, breast cancer/Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, tsunami relief, and multiple sclerosis research.
Reading is Fundamental
Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), our official philanthropic partner, has been supported through the donation of thousands of books and volunteer hours to Boys and Girls Clubs, elementary schools and hospitals. Locally, Gamma Pi furthers the ideals of RIF by frequently visiting Mathews Elementary, an elementary school in Tuscaloosa. Gamma Pi Kappas participate in service activities at Matthews through tutoring, live reading, and in an after school mentoring program. We participate in school supplies and book drives for Mathews, and encourage other sororities and fraternities to do the same.
Rose McGill Fund
Don’t forget to order you magazine subscriptions through the Rose McGill Magazine Agency – it is a great and simple way to help other Kappas. Kappas of all ages and in a great variety of circumstances, including personal difficulties, natural disasters, or financial failures, are helped through the Rose McGill Fund. All aid that is distributed is completely confidential.
