talents and treasures to serve the greater good."
~ Kappa Cares ~
This year our fabulous Philanthropy Chair has involved our association in the Vision Campaign. Through this campaign we are focusing upon several areas of need:
1. Peace House: At our Founders Day Tea, women brought much needed toiletries and new clothing items or Wal-Mart gift cards for the women of the Peace House. Last year at our May Five-Year Birthday Dinner, WMAA contributed over $150 worth of merchandise and gift cards to this worthwhile organization, contributions that were greatly appreciated by the many women at the Peace House who were going through a particularly difficult time.
2. Holiday Sharing- Phase I: Each year, the women of the WMAA have generously helped a Kappa in need during the holiday season, and this year we will continue that legacy. In November, we sent out a wish list to our members and then collected and wrapped the gifts at our Holiday Sharing Dinner.
3. Holiday Sharing- Phase II: This is a new philanthropy project for our association, and we have identified 5 elderly Kappas in the Ogden area who do not need financial help but who would appreciate a little extra TLC. Interested in WMAA members will have the opportunity to regularly send cards, make phone calls, and help in other ways to support and surround these women with our love.
4. Reading is Fundamental (RIF): At our February Officer Elections this program was discussed with our membership. Also, members were given the opportunity to contribute (if they desired) for book purchases. We will be buying books through the ALL ABOUT BOOKS program. They will be given to students at Parleys Park Elementary School when we participate in our first ever RIF Event with a number of 3rd graders there. We are so excited to be moving in this direction as one of our association's key focus areas has always been philanthropy!
5. Chapter Scholarships: At our final meeting in May (Celebrations for the Year and Officer Installation), members will have an opportunity to contribute to scholarships for Kappas in the Delta Eta Chapter who are in demonstrated need of financial assistance.
Please contact our Philanthropy Chair by emailing wasatchmountainskkg@gmail.com with any ideas, suggestions, or help. Together we can create a more compassionate and loving world.
Our association has always worked towards the embodiment of the ideals of "Kappas supporting their sisters, participating in local service projects, and serving the greater good." Since our very first year we have been involved with the Holiday Sharing Program and this event is something our members truly look forward to doing annually.
Some of our other philanthropic events have included:
- Being strong supporters of the Peace House, a local shelter for battered women and children. We have donated numerous items off their high needs list (personal items, clothing, and books).
- Collecting books for local schools and other local organizations to support RIF.
- Food collections for our local food pantries.
