Philanthropy

As individuals with time, talents and treasures, Kappas first support our sisters; second, we participate in local service projects; and third, we serve the greater good. Locally alumnae support numerous community, civic, and philanthropic organizations as volunteers and through their participation in fundrasing events for worthy causes.

In cooperation with the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation we established the Gamma Kappa Sapphire Scholarship in 2001 for deserving active members of the Gamma Kappa Chapter at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg.  To date over 230 alumnae have contributed more than $132,000 for the Scholarship.  Since 2002 eleven Gamma Kappas have been awarded the $3,000 scholarships.  All of us take pride in this effort, which strengthens the bonds between actives and alumnae.

We support
Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), the Fraternity's official philanthropic partner, through the donation of books and volunteer hours.  Additionally our members contribute to the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation and purchase magazine subscriptions through Rose McGill to help fund scholarships, confidential aid, education and training, and our two museums.

Our Gamma Kappa Chapter women volunter as tutors and are actively involved with campus and community philanthropies such as  the bone marrow drive, Campus Kitchens, and international service trips.  In support of RIF, each fall the Chapter hosts Kappccino where guests guests enjoyed coffee, tea and delicious desserts made by the
sisters.
A total of $800 was raised for the Williamsburg-James City County Head Start Program.  The highlight of Gamma Kappa's philanthropic year was Kappasta, an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner held in March.  Despite the threat of rain, $2,000 was raised for the Williamsburg Heritage Humane Society!
