The Oak Park and River Forest Alumnae Association of Kappa Kappa Gamma was officially chartered in 1943, with 39 dues-paying members. Our dues were only $3.50 then, and the association had income of $137.00 and expenses of $104.10. These expenses included the original Charter Fee of $10.00, a scrapbook for $3.00, dues to Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity (Per Capita Tax) of $39.00 and a Convention fee of $10.00, among others. While our membership has increased and receeded over the years, our Kappa hearts are loyal. Many of us still recognize some of the names on that original roster! Currently our paid membership hovers around 35 women each year, including members that have received their 50-year pins, some brand-new faces, and many gals in between!
Traditionally we meet in members' homes 4 times a year: in October for a Founder's Day celebration, in December for our Holiday gathering and Adopt-a-Family "show and tell", in February for a primarily social evening (sometimes we actually get around to playing Bunko!), and again in the spring for a yearly wrap-up and our "Pass the Hat" fundraiser. All monies raised during our fiscal year are subsequently given away at the end of each year, primarily to Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation and also to a handful of local philanthropic organizations.
Our group is currently the proud recipient of both the Adelphe Society for Alumni Associations award and the Greatest Giving from Alumni Associations award.
